Japan wanted to join Western intelligence alliance

Japan is interested in working with the intelligence alliance of five Western countries (the USA, Great Britain, New Zealand, Canada and Australia) called Five Eyes (FVEY), and in the future - in entering it. This was announced by Japanese Defense Minister Taro Kono on August 15 in an interview with the Nikkei newspaper. All these countries share the same values. Japan could get closer, even expand it to Six Eyes, Kono emphasized. According to him, expanding ties with the alliance will not only give Japan access to crucial classified information, but will also help to more quickly provide Western colleagues with their own intelligence. Which will help better counteract China's activity in the region. Kono noted that China's attempts to unilaterally change the status quo, including the East China and South China Seas, as well as the Sino-Indian border and Hong Kong, cause him serious concern. We just put our chair to their table and say that we are in business, the Japanese Minister of Defense said, noting that in order for Japan to join the alliance, there is no need to undergo formal procedures. According to the news agency, in the fall of 2020, international cybersecurity exercises will be held, in which more than 20 countries will take part. It is reported by Nikkei Asian Review. The exercise is organized by the Government of Japan. The event will be attended by the United States, Great Britain, some of the countries of the European Union and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
