In Kenya, three people died during the dispersal of the protest


During the dispersal of the protest of moto-taxi drivers in the Kenyan city of Lessosa, three people were killed. This was reported by the Daily Nation. Police opened fire on protesters after clashes with them. According to eyewitnesses, shoemaker Lazar Kirop tried to intervene when the police stopped the driver of a motorcycle taxi for not wearing a mask, the Standard newspaper reports. Then the police shot Kirop, which caused general indignation. Hundreds of people followed to the police station and set fire to the house of a police officer, the Daily Nation reports. The police statement said that then two more people were shot dead. According to reporters, the police ordered the arrest of all officers involved in the incident and the imposition of strict disciplinary measures against any other officer found guilty. Recall that the police in Kenya are facing growing public discontent over allegations of excessive use of force while enforcing restrictions imposed on the spread of coronavirus. According to human rights defenders, at least 15 people have been killed by police officers during a national curfew since early June.
